What is Factorio?
PC base-game stable-version checks for mining, smelting, power, research and production stoppages. Choose a guide and action from the current display.
Edition: PC Steam base game (app 427520), standard Freeplay: no Space Age, Quality, Elevated Rails or external mods; normal quality and standard research costs. Enemy, pollution and resource settings are addressed separately
Verification scope: Official stable download 2.0.77 checked on 2026-10-04. Numbers and research prioritize official factorio-data tag 2.0.77. Experimental 2.1, old 1.1 and expansion conditions are separate. No executable or individual save was tested

Align base game, expansions and version first
Mine ore, smelt plates, manufacture components and supply research. When the factory stops, inspect one idle machine before expanding. These articles use standard PC base-game Freeplay.

| Check | Guide baseline | If different |
|---|---|---|
| Release branch | Stable 2.0.77 | Do not mix experimental 2.1 or old 1.1 recipes/research |
| Additional content | No Space Age, Quality or similar additions | Follow active mods and recipe screens; expansion differences are in the progression guide's closed answers |
| Map settings | Standard research cost and ordinary resources | Compare enemies, pollution, peaceful mode and research multipliers with your save |
| Display language | Official Japanese support | Compare English names and ingredient icons if reference labels differ |

Reference-check dates differ from gameplay testing. These numbers come from fixed-version data, not measurements in an opened save.
Choose the first check by symptom
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Problem | Current state | First check | Guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Furnace stopped | Ore is arriving | Inspect fuel and finished-output slots separately | Beginners: mining, smelting and power |
| Everything is slow | Several electric machines slow together | Open a nearby pole; inspect Satisfaction and network connection | Beginners: power diagnosis |
| Items pass on the belt without pickup | Materials keep flowing past the machine | Check inserter direction, power/settings and receiver recipe | Beginners: input and output |
| More machines do not raise output | Repeated material starvation or full output | Check activity and slots to identify upstream versus downstream issues | Production: ratios and bottlenecks |
| Research not progressing | Science exists somewhere in the factory | Are all selected-research pack types actually inside labs? | Progression: reading research |
| Cannot craft the next machine | Recipe locked | Check prerequisites and action triggers | Progression: unlock the required stage |
| Attacked after expansion | Normal settings with enemies | Check pollution, nearby nests and ammunition supply | Beginners: settings-specific defense |

Open just one stopped machine
Inspect its state before the factory's appearance. Changing several places together obscures causes: check one at a time.
- Left-click the machine; inspect recipe, inputs, output and fuel/power. Use Alt details to check nearby directions.
- If input is empty, trace one belt, inserter or processing step upstream. If output is full, inspect the next receiver first.
- If ingredients and space exist, inspect fuel, network, recipe, filters and circuit conditions.
- After one fix, watch finished products reach the next machine, not merely the progress bar moving.
Inserters can stop after topping up a small input buffer; machines can idle without demand. Not everything must run continuously.
Separate transport, production and power expansion
Wide tables scroll horizontally.
| Observed state | Fix first | Brief check before expanding |
|---|---|---|
| Upstream materials are insufficient | Mining/smelting or a shared branch | Is another line consuming them? Faster belts alone do not create materials |
| Materials reach the machine | Input handling or processing capacity | Empty input suggests feeding; continuous processing suggests considering more machines |
| Finished products accumulate | Output handling, transport or receiver | Check full chests and stopped downstream steps before expanding upstream |
| Several areas slow together | Shared power network and fuel | Restore power satisfaction before local ratio changes |
No matching entries in this table. Shorten the query or clear it to restore all entries.
A main bus is one organization method, not a requirement for huge initial belt counts. Leave expansion space after a small line works.
Before rebuilding
Check fuel, ammunition and construction supplies before adding equipment. Research need not run relentlessly while diagnosing shortages.
- Check inputs, outputs and wires; remove the working old line only after its replacement runs.
- If construction chests consume too much science iron, limit usable chest slots.
- Review research choices and expansion while fuel or defense supply is weak. Restore missing steps before pursuing continuous science production.
A suggested work order, not a fastest-time or optimal-blueprint guarantee. Watch enemy attacks while building if enabled.
