Learn where to replenish food early on

Travel consumes food in this game. When food runs out, your guard monsters start losing HP, so long journeys require preparation even when you can defeat the enemies. In Chapter 1, remembering the traveling merchant caravan where you can replenish food for free makes it easier to keep exploring around Delcondar.

What to consider when assessing your fighting strength

Look beyond the monsters to the jobs and order of the human companions riding in your wagons. Human companions participate in combat in sequence, so their placement affects how you fight even with the same companions. Start by reading the in-game explanations and checking who acts when you need an attack or healing.

For monster development, this game replaces the breeding system of the previous two games with a system called tenshin (transformation). It uses monster hearts, so do not reuse breeding charts from Terry's Wonderland or DQM2.

Available guide

“Chapter 1: securing food and preparing for the Cave of Departure” covers free supplies, recruiting Ripple, reporting back to the mayor, and collecting Luna's packed lunch. If dwindling food keeps forcing you to make detours, check the order of preparations before leaving.

This hub focuses on the opening of the game. It does not cover every transformation combination or all late-game data.
