“A deckbuilding and tactical-combat adventure about grief, persistence, and changing your plan.” — Editorial introduction

⚔️ What Death Howl Offers

🃏 Grid Combat and Deckbuilding

The basic 5-mana turn budget is shared between movement and card play. Manage the hand cycle and each card’s keywords while choosing a safe position on the grid.

💀 Soulslike Progression

Death Howls can be dropped on defeat and recovered in the next encounter. Sacred Groves restore health and reset enemy encounters, so decide when to craft or turn Howls into upgrades.

🗺️ Four Realms, Thirteen Regions

Distorted Hollows, Piercing Winds, Gloomy Waters, and Hostile Plains each support different mechanics, cards, and Totem choices.

🌲 Mesolithic Scandinavia

Ro enters the spirit world to seek her dead son, Olvi. Developed by The Outer Zone and published by 11 bit studios, known for Frostpunk and This War of Mine.

FAQ

Death Howl FAQ

Q1 Does Death Howl support Japanese? ▼
A

Yes. The official store lists Japanese interface and subtitle support. Check the platform’s current language list for the version you intend to use.

Q2 How long does Death Howl take to finish? ▼
A

The publisher advertises 25+ hours of play. Exploration, retries, quests, and the selected mode can change the total substantially; the guide’s longer ranges are editorial planning estimates rather than measured completion guarantees.

Q3 How does it differ from Slay the Spire and other deck-builders? ▼
A

Death Howl combines open-world exploration, soulslike recovery of Death Howls after death, and grid-based tactical combat. Movement and card play share mana, so positioning and the route through the world affect deck planning.

Q4 Can I play on PS5 or Nintendo Switch? ▼
A

The console release is dated February 19, 2026, with PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch versions. Check the relevant platform store for current availability, supported hardware, and regional pricing; previous sale prices are not current quotes.

Q5 What is the strongest build? ▼
A

Choose a plan for the encounter: coordinate damage across Cephagloom’s tentacles, reach Exorath’s rear weak points, and budget actions carefully against Sorg. Poison, rear attacks, and Echo/Frostalite are useful options rather than compulsory universal solutions. See the card and Totem pages for their actual conditions.

Q6 What are the deck-size and copy limits? ▼
A

Use the deck manager’s limits for the selected mode. Check each card’s displayed copy limit and the active rules. Custom Mode can change the minimum deck size. A focused legal deck generally makes its intended cards easier to find, provided it retains movement, protection, and resources.
