Crow Country Tips: Exploration, Ammunition, Saving and Controls
Record where clues are found and used, checking keys, power and conversations separately. Prioritize survival and understanding first. Learn the route using ammunition, healing and saves, then focus on collection or rank in a later run.
Exploration and note-taking
After finding a key, revisit unresolved places on the map as well as the next obvious door. Bronze Key links to the graveyard and Dig Site; Silver Key to the office, shop and parking area; Golden Key to Seven Seas and Crow’s Office. Do not assume a key is finished after one use.
- When the save-room return is long, check whether a new door connects to a corridor. Record the locations of maps, letters and dates so you can reread them. On a first run, secure a clear rather than refusing healing or saves to chase a rank.
- For unresolved doors, note the key color, required tool and nearest save room. Separate a solved mechanism from an uncollected reward, and verify collection after finding the secrets map.
Matching mechanisms and inputs (answers)
Open answers or major spoilers
- If a mechanism does not respond, check its item, power, conversation and terminal requirements separately. Data Disk is reused at multiple terminals. FACE, CAGE and BDAC belong to different mechanisms. Recording the destination and clue source prevents more mistakes than memorizing codes alone.
Combat and resource management
Resource management is more than avoiding every shot. Reduce repeated damage on return routes and spend what you have to finish the current objective.
- Check ammunition and health before entering. Once inside, locate exits and obstacles first; in a narrow passage, retreat to make space instead of trying to squeeze past.
- Aim before shooting and check whether the threat is down before firing again. Do not assume unverified enemy names, fixed HP or exact shot counts.
- Distinguish clearing a frequently used corridor from passing through a room once. Thorough requires four optional mini-boss defeats; that does not mean every enemy in the game.
- Do not keep taking hits merely to avoid spending a heal. In Murder of Crows, serious injury prevents running, making health and retreat planning especially connected.
- Collect lasers, capacity, power and range upgrades as separate secrets. Obtaining a firearm does not complete every improvement; check all four weapons for Wishes Granted.
When a puzzle stalls
- Confirm the destination on the map. Distinguish Haunted Manor’s keyboard from Tolman’s, and Arcade scores from the Submarine score.
- Before brute-forcing numbers, check power, disk, key and conversation requirements. Some terminal settings are changed again for a separate secret.
- Choose whether to read hints according to your goal. Separate learning from rank attempts and do not apply standard-mode hint rules indiscriminately to hard mode.
Planning secrets and weapon pickups
There are fifteen secrets and four main firearms. Compare the secrets map with collected rewards.
- Prioritize keys and shortcuts first, marking suspicious places. Return with the correct tools instead of forcing a dangerous collection attempt.
- After Silver Key, revisit Gift Shop and parking; after the disk, Train Room and Dungeon; after Flamethrower, Store Room; after acid, Toilet.
- Fifteen secrets and all weapon upgrades are related but distinct goals. Quizmaster and the conversation with Arthur at the car also require separate attention.
Saving, replaying and ranks
Check the fireplace save interaction in the Lounge or Submarine. Confirm completion on screen rather than assuming constant autosaving, and return to save after progress you do not want to repeat.
- On a first run, save after major puzzle progress and at the late-game Lab. Note the current objective so you know what must be repeated after a failure.
- Before a rank attempt, inspect the results screen for that difficulty. Track secrets, healing, hints and deaths rather than assuming an unchecked S threshold.
- After unlocking B/A/S rewards, check the game’s selection screen for activation. Do not equate these unlocks with carrying every inventory item into New Game+.
Platform and control checks
| Scheme | Role | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| CLASSIC | Default keyboard control scheme | Test movement, aiming and reloading in a safe room, matching prompts to the current input device. |
| MOUSE | Mouse camera, keyboard movement and aiming | While the weapon is raised, left-click shoots and right-click reloads; use the wheel or E for grenades. This is not mouse-only automatic aiming. |
| ORIGINAL | Earlier keyboard scheme | An option for the earlier layout. Check the separate tank/modern movement setting in your version. Full key rebinding was still in development in the reviewed update. |
The official Switch release date is October 16, 2024. Check current listings for language and device support; fixed frame rates and identical behavior across platforms have not been measured.
Frequently asked questions
What should a beginner prioritize?
Maps, saving and a return route. Rather than chasing speed and S rank at once, track key destinations separately from missed items.
Can I play if combat is difficult?
Officially, Exploration lets you explore without monster attacks. Identical access to combat achievements and ranks has not been checked here.
What should I write down?
Room name, required tool, clue location, input destination and nearest save room. Numbers alone make it easy to mix different keyboard or score puzzles.
Which keyboard setting should I use?
Check CLASSIC, MOUSE and ORIGINAL plus tank/modern movement in the settings. Test aim, shooting and reload in a safe room. Full rebinding was still in development in the reviewed update.
Version scope and verification limits
Scope: the main Crow Country game. Official information is cross-checked with firsthand play records; this is not a hands-on full clear or verification on every platform. Controls vary by version and platform. All Murder of Crows values, rank thresholds and individual gas allocations remain unchecked.
