⚠️ Before starting Hardmode

The world changes

Defeating the Wall of Flesh permanently starts Hardmode, changing enemies and progression. New ores belong to the following progression steps rather than all appearing automatically at the transition.

Plan equipment upgrades

Pre-Hardmode gear struggles against harder-hitting enemies. Prioritize progressing to new ores and replacement armor after the transition.

Prepare before defeating the Wall

Prepare defenses, healing and mobility before the transition. Being able to defeat the boss is different from being ready for the resulting world.

💡 Early-game tips

Build housing and attract NPCs first

NPC housing needs walls, an entrance, lighting, a table and a chair. Residents create a shopping and recovery base and help meet the Eye of Cthulhu's 3-NPC spawn condition.

Build an arena before fighting

Platforms shape boss fights. Long, flat paths with healing and movement prepared make attacking while dodging easier.

Check your world's evil

Corruption or Crimson is set at world creation, changing the evil boss and materials. Check which your world has before following instructions.

Plan for the Steam version's language support

Without official Japanese on the Steam listing, item names use English or another supported language. Japanese guides and community translations provide alternatives.

FAQ

Terraria FAQ

Q1 What kind of game is Terraria? ▼
A

A 2D sandbox action-adventure: mine a generated world, gather materials, build equipment and housing, then progress through bosses. Released May 16, 2011, it has received updates for over a decade. The saved Steam snapshot records over 1.54 million reviews and Overwhelmingly Positive reception; the listed Japanese regular price was ¥1,200.

Q2 Does it support Japanese? ▼
A

The Steam version does not list official Japanese support. Item names and UI use English or another supported language. Japanese community guides and translations are widely used.

Q3 What order should I fight bosses in? ▼
A

A pre-Hardmode guideline is King Slime → Eye of Cthulhu → Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulhu → Skeletron → Queen Bee → Deerclops → Wall of Flesh. The order is flexible; King Slime, Queen Bee and Deerclops are optional. See [boss requirements](/en/games/terraria/bosses/).

Q4 What is Hardmode, and when does it start? ▼
A

Defeating the Wall of Flesh, summoned by dropping a Guide Voodoo Doll into Underworld lava while the Guide is alive, changes the world to Hardmode. Enemies and progression change, and new ores become part of subsequent progression. It cannot be reversed: prepare housing defense, healing and movement first.

Q5 Corruption or Crimson: can I choose? ▼
A

World evil is set during world creation; eligible creation settings let you specify it. Corruption gives the Eater of Worlds, Crimson the Brain of Cthulhu, with different materials and equipment paths. Check your world's evil before following a guide.

Q6 Where should a beginner start? ▼
A

Build valid NPC housing with walls, an entrance, lighting, a table and a chair. Residents provide shopping and support. Three housed NPCs also contribute to the Eye of Cthulhu's natural-spawn requirements alongside at least 200 maximum HP and more than 10 defense. Prepare a long, flat arena before fighting.

Q7 Which similar games are covered here? ▼
A

Core Keeper has similar underground exploration and boss progression; Valheim and Enshrouded share base-building and material tiers. All suit an interest in mining, building and combat.
