🎮 Early-run basics

Start with Knight for steadier progress

Sol Cesto is a tactical roguelite with one character per run, not a party. The starting Peasant has no Sun Power and is hardest; switching to the Knight unlocked after the first death is steadier. Its defensive style reduces early accidents.

Check tile probabilities and predicted damage before choosing a row

Choose one of four rows, then land randomly on one of its four tiles. Tiles contain monsters, chests, healing strawberries or traps. Encounters resolve immediately through Strength/Magic comparisons. Hover over the row to check probabilities and predicted damage before dropping.

Include healing strawberry tiles in your calculations

A row can include HP-restoring strawberries alongside monsters and traps. Consider both risk and reward: when low on HP, a row more likely to provide a strawberry can matter as much as avoiding damage.

⚔️ The equalizer approach

Raise one stat heavily to make enemy tiles safe

Focus heavily on Strength or Magic. Exceeding an enemy’s matching stat lets you land without damage, effectively turning that tile safe. Keep your chosen stat above the current biome’s enemies; this is the equalizer approach.

Use Sun Power and items to escape danger

Most characters have an active Sun Power ability. Consumables include healing, row/column clears and enemy weakening. Keep them as insurance when you cannot create safe tiles, handling enemies your stats cannot exceed and recovering control.

💰 Resource management

Send chest gold to the surface early through wells and pots

Gold sent to camp through a well or pot supports character unlocks and shop options. Dying in the run before sending loses unsent gold. Secure it early rather than hoarding it until death.

Favor probabilities with Teeth from the Devil Statue

Teeth are lasting upgrades, not a consumable resource. Choose one of two to four at a Devil Statue. Stone teeth change rules/probabilities, including safe tiles or resources; Metal teeth give powerful ongoing effects. Favor your odds for steadier runs.

⚠️ Missables and softlocks

Earlier sun/key report: check the official fix

Earlier player reports describe a no-exit room and lost run when using a key at the bottom before taking the sun. Be careful about key targets and do not treat the old order as a current universal requirement.

Unlock Lizard by carrying the Egg to biome 3

Obtain the Egg in biome 1 and carry it to biome 3 to hatch it and unlock Lizard permanently. Dying en route loses the Egg, so focus on reaching biome 3 while retaining it.

❓ FAQ
What kind of game is Sol Cesto?

A tactical roguelite with row-selection and random-drop controls on a 4×4 dungeon grid. Tiles contain monsters, chests, strawberries and traps; combat resolves immediately through Strength/Magic comparisons. Teeth at the Devil Statue reshape probabilities to help manage luck.

Which character suits beginners?

**The Knight** is easiest to handle and recommended by several players as the first unlock after the first death. The starting **Peasant has no Sun Power and is hardest**, so try it after becoming comfortable.

What is the Teeth system?

Choose **one of two to four Teeth in a Devil Statue room**. **Stone teeth change rules/probabilities**, such as safe tiles or resources. **Metal teeth give powerful ongoing effects or curses**. Exact individual values vary by version; check the game.

Are there irreversible softlocks?

Runs normally reset, but **using a key on the final floor before taking the sun reportedly lost a run**, by entering a room with no exit. Watch key targets in the deepest area. Corrective patch no. 2 fixed a last-screen lock involving items or powers. These are earlier reports; the exact key-route correspondence has not been confirmed.

What happens to collected gold?

**Send it to camp through a well or pot** to fund metaprogression such as characters and shop options. **Dying before sending loses it**, so send savings early. The Flute can also send held coins to camp.

How does the 4×4 grid work?

Each floor has 4×4 tiles. **Select one of four rows to land randomly on one of its four tiles**. Hovering shows probabilities and predicted damage. Favor the odds through Teeth and Sun Power to land on safe tiles.

Which Teeth should I prioritize?

The game rewards favoring luck rather than removing it, making Tooth choices important. A suggested order is **1. Teeth reducing trap appearances**: traps remain after being stepped on, so excessive trap appearances can make survival impossible. **2. Teeth making the board easier to read and less variable**, improving decisions in many situations. 3. Add enemies or gold only once damage and economy are prepared. Establish the ability to stay alive deeper into a run before choosing risky Teeth.

How do I handle an unlucky board and manage resources?

Bad landings are inevitable, so **keep ways to mitigate them**: 1. **Reroll unfavorable layouts with Dice-type items**. 2. **Prioritize weakening/healing tiles and items, including strawberries**. 3. Maintain spare HP and resources so one accident does not immediately kill you. Read probabilities, choose the safest row and retain rerolls and healing for emergencies.
