Gakkou de Atta Kowai Hanashi Guides
A sound novel in which the protagonist, a member of a high school newspaper club, interviews 6 storytellers about school ghost stories in the school building after classes. The script is by Takeo Iijima (Takiya Iijima). Each storyteller has a very different voice and set of themes, while digitized live-action graphics and unsettling presentation have kept the work talked about across generations. Flags change in fine detail according to whose story you hear, in what order, and which options you choose in each scene, creating numerous branches and hidden scenarios beyond the apparent ghost stories. You cannot see everything in a single playthrough: a major attraction is working toward every story and ending through flag management and repeated attempts. It was later ported in forms including Gakkou de Atta Kowai Hanashi S for PlayStation.

Early game
Understand the storytellers and the basic interview flow, then complete 1 full run
- ・Choose whom to approach first in the classroom after school and learn the ghost-story themes of all 6 storytellers
- ・Make straightforward choices without overthinking and continue to the ending to experience the overall structure
- ・After completing a run, check unlocked elements and any available screen for managing storyteller order and story numbers
Midgame
Confirm how order and choices affect flags, then systematically explore unread stories
- ・Start with someone different from your 1st run and check how listening order changes the stories presented
- ・Keep separate saves before options that look like branches and compare how each choice changes what follows
- ・List storytellers and themes you have not heard, then prioritize the remaining stories
Late game
Narrow down conditions for hidden scenarios and special endings, and collect every story and ending
- ・Look for stories with a different atmosphere that appear only after certain stories or combinations of choices
- ・Choices that abruptly change the fear or theme often lead toward hidden routes, so mark them in your branch notes
- ・Use your completion list to work backward from remaining stories and endings and target the gaps
Problem: You keep hearing similar ghost stories and cannot find new ones
Cause: You repeat the same interview order and choices, producing the same combination of flags
Solution: Change the conditions from the outset, such as approaching someone else first or reversing early choices, to explore different branches
Problem: You cannot reach hidden scenarios or stories beneath the surface
Cause: You follow the regular stories straightforwardly without setting the prerequisite flags for special branches
Solution: Deliberately select unusual options or choices that change the atmosphere, then try again on a run after seeing a particular story
Problem: You lose track of which stories you have seen and which remain
Cause: Numerous branches and scattered saves make completion difficult to track
Solution: Note completed stories by storyteller and theme, separate saves by scene, and work backward to fill unread gaps
📋 The basic interview flow and how to approach branches
Trying to pursue every branch immediately becomes confusing. On your 1st run, avoid digging too deeply and prioritize experiencing the framework: who tells which stories, and how the after-school interviews proceed and end. Understanding the whole before seriously pursuing completion is ultimately the shorter path.

You read the text displayed on screen and branch the story by selecting options at key moments. There are no action elements: text, sound, and digitized live-action presentation create the ghost-story atmosphere. A basic approach of reading carefully and pausing to think when choices appear works well.
Basic systems — read →🔑 Working with 6 storytellers and tracking flags
Each storyteller favors different types of ghost stories and ways of telling them. Learning for yourself who tells what kinds of stories helps you identify whom to start with when targeting an unseen theme. Without firm evidence, it is safer to recognize tendencies rather than assume specific trigger conditions.
