🐟 DREDGE Fish Guide: Locations, Times and Equipment
Search 57 base-game regular and exotic fish by region, time, water type and method. Check equipment progression from Coastal to Shallow, Oceanic, Mangrove, Volcanic, Abyssal and Hadal, and reserve fish needed for Pursuits.
A selection of 53 regular fish, 4 exotic fish and 67 checked aberration relationships. This is not all 63 regular fish, 4 exotics and 84 aberrations from the base game. Search by English names without mixing DLC numbering.
Regular and exotic fish: 57 species and their conditions
“Day and night” means the fish can be found at either time. Where several methods are listed, any of those equipment types can be used. Place crab pots at the correct depth as well.
No fish in this selection match. Try an English fish or region name, or check the scope of this guide.
Checks before setting out
A region name alone does not determine whether you can catch a fish. Match water type and method before departure to avoid arriving without suitable equipment.
- Find the fish’s row and check its time and water type. Even in The Marrows, Coastal and Shallow require different coverage.
- After researching equipment, buy it from the shop and install it in a compatible slot. Purchasing it or leaving it in storage does not add a fishing method.
- Rods work at fishing spots; nets work while moving through supported waters; crab pots must be deployed and revisited for collection.
- Before handing in samples, keep the required regular fish rather than selling everything. Sell surplus to the Fishmonger or Travelling Merchant.
Expand water coverage from your starting equipment
Reaching a region is separate from having a rod for its water types. Research Part counts show the cost to unlock that item; prices are normal displayed amounts. After research, buy and install the equipment before sailing.
- First sell Coastal catches and buy a Shallow rod. Do not try to catch Gulf Flounder or Grey Eel with the starting Coastal-only rod.
- Progress the night order to receive a crab pot. Deploy it at a suitable depth, leave cargo space and return to collect the catch.
- Check a net’s water coverage before deploying it. Anchovy is trawl-only; it cannot be caught by casting a rod into a spot.
- For Abyssal and Hadal access, begin with the Research Assistant’s samples and parts delivery. Collecting the listed Research Parts does not let you skip that Pursuit.
- Starting Coastal rod
- Coastal: target Blue Mackerel and Cod with the starting rod. This does not cover Shallow or Oceanic fishing.
- Simple Skimmer / Weighted Line
- Shallow: buy at Greater Marrow’s Shipwright. Normal displayed prices are $75 / $150. Needed for Gulf Flounder and Grey Eel orders.
- Hydraulic Rod
- Oceanic: unlock with 1 Research Part, then buy for $410. Install before sailing for Sailfish or sharks.
- Flexible Fish Pole
- Coastal + Shallow: 2 Research Parts, then $460. Covers both with one rod.
- Anti-Tangle Line
- Mangrove + Coastal: 2 Research Parts, then $350. For fish such as Gar in Twisted Strand.
- Heat Resistant Line
- Volcanic + Shallow: 2 Research Parts, then $330. For fish such as Cusk Eel in Devil’s Spine.
- Versatile Rod
- Coastal + Shallow + Mangrove + Volcanic: 4 Research Parts, then $600. Does not include Oceanic, Abyssal or Hadal.
- Sampling Device
- Abyssal: receive after delivering the initial samples and Prototype Parts to the Research Assistant. Must still be installed.
- Bottomless Lines
- Abyssal + Hadal: after the Research Assistant’s equipment unlock, 1 Research Part, then $450. Install before Hadal fishing.
- Check displayed rod prices and parts, then unlock the water type needed for your target fish. This is not a complete comparison of every item’s speed, shape or slot count.
- Eight additional crabs are outside this table’s scope. Use the listed deployment depths for its four crabs and check the pot-placement display as well.
Finding aberrations and method exceptions
Aberrations have different encyclopedia names from regular fish. Find the base fish below, then use its water type, time and fishing method.
- First locate the regular fish and use its fishing grounds as a starting point. Shimmering water is a useful aberration marker; check with the spyglass before approaching.
- Target daytime-only fish by day. Do not look for Sailfish or Cod only at night just because you want an aberration.
- Aurora Jellyfish and its aberrations require a net. Casting a rod into a fishing spot does not collect them.
- Look for crab aberrations with pots in the appropriate region. Check pot condition, collect catches and repair as needed.
- Distinguish aberration requests from regular-fish sample requests. Read the exact name rather than assuming an aberration substitutes for a regular specimen.
- Update v1.2.0 added 10 aberrations; v1.3.0 added crab aberrations and an equipment Aberration Bonus display. Old guides claiming crabs have no aberrations predate those updates.
- This introductory guide does not cover Atrophy’s preference for unregistered fish, bait manipulation or exact aberration probabilities. It lists conditions for finding needed fish through normal methods.

Caught to Order: Counts and unlock sequence
Caught to Order from Greater Marrow’s Fishmonger introduces Shallow fishing, night fishing, crab pots and aberrations in sequence. Hand over the requested fish through the order dialogue before entering the sales screen.
- First, one Gulf Flounder and one Grey Eel. Buy and install a Shallow rod; a daytime trip can collect both.
- Next, two Arrow Squid and one Black Grouper. Both are nocturnal, but Squid needs Coastal coverage and Grouper needs Shallow.
- Use the crab pot received after the night order to collect one Common Crab and one Fiddler Crab. Choose a shallow Marrows deployment spot suitable for both.
- Deploy the pot, let time pass and transfer catches to the boat. If the required species does not appear, continue checking and deploying. Finish the order before selling surplus.
- Wait for the next order, then deliver one aberration. This stage requests an aberration rather than a specific regular fish.
Research Assistant: Unlocking Abyssal and Hadal fishing
Speak to the Research Assistant at Old Fortress, D5 in Stellar Basin. Collect the first three samples, then transport Prototype Parts to progress toward Abyssal equipment and the creature-repelling device.
- Prepare a Coastal net and Shallow rod. Collect one Firefly Squid and one Glowing Octopus at night; the octopus can also be caught with a crab pot.
- Trawl Stellar Basin at night to catch one Aurora Jellyfish. Do not keep searching fishing spots with only a rod equipped.
- After delivering all three species, visit Research Outpost. Examine the equipment on the table inside and load Prototype Parts onto the boat.
- Return to Old Fortress, deliver the parts and receive Sampling Device. Install it in a rod slot to fish Abyssal spots.
- Hadal fish require Hadal coverage. Unlock Bottomless Lines with 1 Research Part, buy it and install it. Sampling Device alone does not reach Hadal water.
- Receive Repulsion Machine from the Research Assistant and connect it to the Generator at Research Outpost. Activate it before heading to the central fishing spots.
- Collect one Anglerfish, Loosejaw, Giant Amphipod and Snailfish. The first two need Abyssal coverage; the latter two need Hadal.
- The repulsion effect is temporary. Do not spend too long fishing the center; return to reactivate the device if necessary. Deliver the four samples to the Research Assistant.
- Anglerfish and Loosejaw are available by day and night. The later sample request does not require every fish to be caught at night.
- Managing the creature and meeting rod requirements are separate. Activating the machine does not let non-Hadal equipment catch Snailfish.
Recording Rarities: Report four exotic fish locations
Ask the Travelling Merchant about exotic fish to start the Pursuit. Targets are Oarfish, Gulper Eel, Goliath Tigerfish and Coelacanth. Catch them, then report each discovery’s location individually.
- You do not need to keep the fish. Locations can be reported after selling them. Each report rewards 2 Research Parts, for 8 across all four.
- A normal exotic spot is depleted after its single catch. Do not expect regular respawning. The Iron Rig’s Exotic Bait and exotic aberrations belong to separate additional content.
- Explosives are needed to reach Goliath Tigerfish and Coelacanth. Unlock them through the main Gale Cliffs Pursuit, then restock from the Travelling Merchant or another supplier before sailing.
Oarfish
Gale Cliffs: Behind the P3 waterfall
Required equipment:Abyssal rod
- Find the waterfall at P3 in Gale Cliffs. Sail through its surface into the cave behind it.
- Approach the fishing spot inside. Install an Abyssal rod and catch the fish for its exotic-fish record.
- After returning to port, ask the Travelling Merchant about exotics and report Oarfish’s location.
Gulper Eel
Stellar Basin: Trench at F4
Required equipment:Hadal rod
- Unlock deep-water equipment through the Research Assistant, then research, buy and install Hadal equipment.
- Look for the fishing spot in the F4 trench west of Research Outpost. Do not sail straight into the central basin hole carelessly.
- Catch Gulper Eel for its encyclopedia record, then report the location to the Travelling Merchant.
Goliath Tigerfish
Twisted Strand: Behind the fallen tree at E12
Required equipment:Mangrove rod and explosives
- Prepare explosives and install a Mangrove rod, then head to E12 in Twisted Strand.
- Blow up the fallen tree blocking the channel and enter the small area behind it.
- Catch Goliath Tigerfish at the spot. Report the location to the Travelling Merchant rather than handing over the fish.
Coelacanth
Devil’s Spine: Behind the rocks at Q12
Required equipment:Abyssal rod and explosives
- Prepare an Abyssal rod and explosives. Do not set out with Volcanic coverage alone.
- Blow up the rocks blocking the passage at Q12 in Devil’s Spine and approach the fishing spot beyond.
- Catch Coelacanth, then report it to the Travelling Merchant. Its location can still be reported after selling the fish.
Hooded figures: Fish order and equipment
Read each figure’s dialogue and deliver one regular fish at a time in the requested order. Since v1.1.0 their request timers have been removed, so you can unlock the required equipment before continuing.
- Selling to the Fishmonger or Travelling Merchant is separate from handing in a figure’s request. Reserve the needed samples before selling surplus.
- The locations below are where you meet the figures. Their fish may come from different regions.
Figure in Blue — M7: Between The Marrows and Gale Cliffs
- Blue Mackerel × 1
- Tiger Mackerel × 1
- Snake Mackerel × 1
Coastal coverage. First and second fish by day; third by day or night.
Figure in Gold — K2: Between Gale Cliffs and Stellar Basin
- Red Snapper × 1
- Fangtooth × 1
- Blue Crab × 1
Coastal rod, Abyssal rod and a crab pot deployed in Stellar Basin.
Figure in Purple — Small island south of Twisted Strand
- Tarpon × 1
- Horseshoe Crab × 1
- Barreleye × 1
Shallow rod, Twisted Strand crab pot and Abyssal rod.
Figure in Red — L14: Small island west of Devil’s Spine
- Cusk Eel × 1
- Sailfish × 1
- Frilled Shark × 1
Volcanic and Oceanic coverage. First fish at night; second by day; third by day or night.
The Marrows shrine: Five Cod
Cod is a regular fish. Collect five by day with Coastal fishing in The Marrows and bring them to the northern shrine. This is not a requirement for five Cod aberrations.
- Prepare five regular Cod using a Coastal rod or net. Reserve them before selling everything to the Fishmonger.
- Take them to the shrine north of Greater Marrow and fit Cod into its offering grid.
- Collect Sinew Spindle after the offering. Even with a special rod, check the destination fish’s water type.
Four shrines: Fish to reserve and equipment rewards
Fit fish into each shrine’s offering grid, rotating them when several are required. Reserve the right numbers before selling. You can deposit distant-region fish over several trips instead of carrying them all together.
- The Marrows: Cod shrine
- Five regular Cod. Rewards Sinew Spindle for Coastal and Shallow fishing.
- Gale Cliffs: Crab shrine
- One Decorator Crab and two Rock Crab. Rewards Mouth of the Deep crab pot. These two crabs’ deployment depths are not listed in this guide.
- Stellar Basin: Shark shrine
- One each of Hammerhead Shark, Bronze Whaler, Blacktip Reef Shark and Ghost Shark. Rewards Viscera Crane. The first three are Oceanic; Ghost Shark is Abyssal.
- Twisted Strand: Aberration shrine
- One aberration of any kind. You do not need to fill every grid space. Rewards Tendon Rod for Shallow, Mangrove and Oceanic fishing.
- The three tablets used for Devil’s Spine’s main story are separate from these four equipment shrines. Receiving four equipment rewards does not certify every delivery branch is complete.
- Blacktip Reef Shark is nocturnal; Bronze Whaler is daytime. Clear cargo space and make separate trips instead of trying to carry every shark together.
Checks when you cannot catch a fish
Check equipment, time, fishing ground and delivery recipient in that order. Similar fish names do not imply the same methods or uses.
- Researched a rod but still cannot fish
- Check that it has been bought and installed. A rod in storage adds no fishing capability.
- Cannot fish near the same island
- Check Coastal, Shallow, Oceanic or another required water type. Do not choose equipment from the island name alone.
- Searching for Glowing Octopus with a Coastal-only rod
- Use a Shallow rod at night or crab pots in the same region.
- Cannot find an Aurora Jellyfish fishing spot
- Trawl Coastal waters at night. It is not a rod-caught fish.
- Waiting for night for every Abyssal fish
- “Day and night” entries work at either time. Fangtooth, Barreleye, Anglerfish and Ghost Shark are not night-only.
- Stopped the central creature but cannot catch Snailfish
- Check Hadal rod coverage. The repulsion machine does not add water types to your fishing equipment.
- Thought selling an exotic fish made the Pursuit impossible
- Choose the Travelling Merchant’s exotic-fish dialogue and report its location from the catch record.
- Took aberrations to sell to the Collector
- Sell fish to the Fishmonger or Travelling Merchant. The Collector is not a fish buyer.

Frequently asked questions
Are ordinary Cod and Blue Mackerel aberrations?
Both are regular fish. Aberrations have separate names such as All-Seeing Cod and Grotesque Mackerel. Read request and sample names and keep the required version.
Should I sell aberrations to the Collector?
Sell to the Fishmonger or Travelling Merchant. Deliver fish needed by the Research Assistant or hooded figures before selling them. For the four exotic fish, report the locations to the Travelling Merchant.
Where do I unlock an Abyssal rod?
Deliver the Research Assistant’s first three samples in Stellar Basin, then transport Prototype Parts from Research Outpost. Install the received Sampling Device for Abyssal coverage. Research, buy and install separate Hadal equipment such as Bottomless Lines for Hadal fishing.
Can Aurora Jellyfish be caught with a rod?
No; it is trawl-only. Install a Coastal net, deploy it and sail Stellar Basin at night. Keep a regular Aurora Jellyfish for the Research Assistant.
Do the hooded figures’ requests have a deadline?
Their request timers were removed in v1.1.0. Do not apply old guides’ few-day death timers to the current version. You can unlock the equipment before collecting their fish.
Why can I not find Anchovy with a rod?
Anchovy is Oceanic and trawl-only. Deploy an Oceanic net outside the islands. Distinguish rods used at spots from nets used while moving.
Does Versatile Rod cover Abyssal and Hadal too?
It covers Coastal, Shallow, Mangrove and Volcanic. Oceanic, Abyssal and Hadal require separate equipment, including an Oceanic rod and deep-water unlocks through the Research Assistant.
