📋 Walkthrough: five stages

Five stages for managing mining, hauling and returning, with equipment, upgrades and mode objectives.
Phase 1 Introduction: mining and defense basics

Learn digging, carrying resources and returning for defense with one keeper and dome. Rather than trying every item immediately, identify why returns or defense fall short one cause at a time.

✅ Actions

  1. 1. Check Engineer or another available base keeper and the selected dome
  2. 2. Create a return route near the entrance and haul found resources
  3. 3. If using Laser Dome, inspect its current weapon upgrades and costs
  4. 4. Before the next wave, check health and the primary gadget’s defense function
  5. 5. Distinguish the main shaft and side paths to keep a usable return route

💡 Tips

Prioritize survival and learn the current weapon and return controls. Identify defensive problems one at a time before rushing more equipment. Health margins vary by setup and wave; do not use a fixed 50% rule.

Phase 2 Stabilize exploration and transport

Expand side paths while checking hauling time. Evaluate transport tools such as Lift for the route, comparing travel time with time available for mining.

✅ Actions

  1. 1. If hard rock blocks progress, consider the keeper’s drilling-power upgrade
  2. 2. If Lift is offered, check the transport route and occupied slot
  3. 3. Divide spending between weapon, mining, transport and repairs; address the current shortage
  4. 4. When enemies reach the dome quickly, end mining earlier and return to defend
  5. 5. Check acquired gadgets and keeper upgrades, then decide whether the next resources go to weapons, drilling or transport

💡 Tips

Side passages also increase return distance. Set mining range using both resource finds and hauling time. On returning, check health and repair costs before the next trip.

Phase 3 Equipment roles and supplements

Separate weapon upgrades, primary gadgets and secondary gadgets found while exploring. Check the missing role in your setup and options competing for the same slot.

✅ Actions

  1. 1. Secure a route for returning finds from caves
  2. 2. Tesla Dome is a dome weapon choice; first check the controls and upgrades of the current dome
  3. 3. If movement or carrying is slow, compare keeper upgrades and transport equipment
  4. 4. If using Shield, distinguish ordinary upgrades from battle abilities
  5. 5. If Probe is offered, check exploration effects and its slot

💡 Tips

Supplements differ from ordinary purchased upgrades. In v4.0, Laser’s double laser and Tesla’s perfect timing moved to supplements. Check the current tree and retrieved items instead of fixing an old purchase order.

Phase 4 Prepare later defenses

Adjust defense to ground/air approaches, spawns and transformations. Reassess mining time and repair/upgrade spending rather than repeating the previous wave’s target order blindly.

✅ Actions

  1. 1. When rock becomes harder, recheck drilling power and travel time
  2. 2. Watch ground and airborne enemies and check which paths the current weapon can target
  3. 3. Check battle-ability usage conditions for the current primary gadget
  4. 4. Review upgrade costs for current weapons and equipment and choose what the next defense needs
  5. 5. When retrieving a supplement, choose an offered upgrade that addresses the current shortage

💡 Tips

Bloater can disappear if left alone but releases Walkers after enough damage. Breeder spawns Ticks and temporarily hardens after damage. Tormentor loses health on transforming, then leaves only a short window before its laser. Observe behavior rather than applying one targeting order to every enemy.

Phase 5 Complete the mode objective

Check relic retrieval in Relic Hunt and assignment conditions in Guild Assignments. Work toward the current objective while retaining time for defense and hauling.

✅ Actions

  1. 1. Check routes to caves/relics; consider Blast Mining if already available
  2. 2. Spend remaining resources on the next defense and objective rather than evenly maxing every item
  3. 3. Set target priorities by observing spawning or transforming enemies
  4. 4. Check health and abilities such as Shield, retaining a repair budget
  5. 5. Complete the current mode’s objective

💡 Tips

Relic Hunt retrieval, Prestige scoring and Guild Assignments objectives differ. Maintain surface defense and return routes near completion, allocating remaining resources and time to the current goal.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Q. What is Dome Keeper’s basic loop?

A. Alternate mining and defense. Dig underground for resources, return them to upgrade the dome and weapons, then defend against waves of aliens. Learning this rhythm and balancing trips against defense is central.

Q. Are keepers and domes the same choice?

A. Engineer and Assessor are base keepers; Laser, Tesla, Sword and Artillery Domes are separate armed-dome choices. Learn mining and defense with one setup first; check DLC and platform additions separately.

Q. How do underground finds and supplements work?

A. Return finds from caves in the generated mine to make choices at the dome. Gadgets occupy slots; supplements upgrade weapons or equipment. Distinguish their role from the Relic Hunt objective.

Q. Is Tesla Dome a gadget added during a run?

A. Tesla is a dome weapon choice. Official v4.0 moved perfect timing to a supplement; distinguish it from ordinary upgrades in the current tree. This is separate from keeper and primary-gadget choices.

Q. What should I do when dome health drops?

A. Check health and repair costs on returning, allocating resources before the next wave destroys the dome. Health upgrades and Shield effects differ; distinguish weak weapon damage, protection and repairs.
