Phantom Brave(PlayStation 2)
📖 Phantom Brave basics: Confine, removal, and free movement
An explanation of Phantom Brave's distinctive systems, including deployment through possession (Confine), removal through REMOVE, grid-free movement, and lifting and throwing.
Phantom Brave — what should I check first in Basic systems?
Marona's ability to have phantoms such as Ash possess objects on the map is called Confine. They only appear on the map and participate in battle after possessing an object, and their abilities and skills change with the object's type. Choosing who possesses which object is the starting point for tactics on every map.
| Phase | Objective | Checklist |
|---|---|---|
| Early game | Understand the distinctive systems |
|
| Midgame | Develop characters and strengthen equipment |
|
| Late game | Commit to deeper development |
|
1. Unsure how to use Confine
Cause: Unfamiliarity with the distinctive systems
Solution: Start by possessing grass or rocks to deploy characters, then learn to manage their remaining turns
2. Enemies outdamage you
Cause: Character development and equipment upgrades are lagging behind
Solution: Improve your force with titles and fusion, and train in random dungeons
3. Unsure how to approach long-term development
Cause: No clear development plan
Solution: Focus resources on a small main force and strengthen it gradually with fusion and titles

- ▸ Phantoms can only be deployed through Confine
- ▸ Their strengths and abilities change with the host object, such as flowers, rocks, or trees
- ▸ You can also take and use objects being used by enemies
Each character has a REMOVE value and is forced to leave the map after taking that many actions following Confine. You cannot keep everyone deployed indefinitely, so using their limited turns efficiently is important.
- ▸ The REMOVE value indicates roughly how many actions remain before removal
- ▸ After phantoms leave, continue fighting by Confine-deploying reserves in sequence
- ▸ Planning deployment timing matters more on long maps
Phantom Brave has no grid, allowing free movement and attacks within circular ranges. You can also lift and throw allies, objects, and enemies to assist movement, adjust positions, and set up combos. Its appeal lies in spatial tactics unlike those of grid-based strategy RPGs.
- ▸ Without a grid, judge movement and attack ranges as circles
- ▸ Use lifting and throwing to adjust positions and reach and shape the battle
- ▸ Object positioning is key to offense and defense
