Guardian Heroes(Sega Saturn)

🗺️ Navigate the branching story and explore new routes

Guardian Heroes' Story Mode is a branching scenario spanning 30 stages in total, and 1 playthrough does not cover every route. Dialogue choices at stage breaks determine your path, changing the ending and final boss. The basic approach is to follow your interests on the first run to understand the overall structure, then explore other routes on repeat playthroughs.

Guardian Heroes — what should I check first in Route branches and progression?

The story begins with Han and his companions gaining the power of the Undead Warrior, then develops into a conflict involving the kingdom and the Black Knights. Choices appear at the end of many stages, and your chosen direction changes the next location and opponent. On your first run, follow the story naturally and remember roughly which choices led to which developments. The route branches rather than following a single line, so choosing one direction means you cannot visit the other in that same run.

How branches work and your first run

The story begins with Han and his companions gaining the power of the Undead Warrior, then develops into a conflict involving the kingdom and the Black Knights. Choices appear at the end of many stages, and your chosen direction changes the next location and opponent. On your first run, follow the story naturally and remember roughly which choices led to which developments. The route branches rather than following a single line, so choosing one direction means you cannot visit the other in that same run.

  • ▸ Choices in conversations at stage breaks determine your next direction
  • ▸ A single run cannot cover all stages, and routes branch into several endings
  • ▸ Follow the first run without overthinking to learn the setting and characters
  • ▸ Make rough notes matching chosen paths to their developments
Explore unvisited routes on repeat runs

From your second run onward, you can use cleared-game data to work through branches efficiently. Carrying over your level and the tactics you have learned makes new routes easier to explore than on the first run. Choose options you have not taken and look for unseen locations and bosses. With multiple final bosses and endings, choosing different paths becomes an objective in itself.

  • ▸ From the second run onward, growth and experience make collecting branches easier
  • ▸ Prioritize unchosen options to reach new locations
  • ▸ The final boss and ending change with your route
  • ▸ Aiming for every ending gives repeat playthroughs direction
