The Granstream Saga(PlayStation)

⚔️ Master the basics of fully 3D one-on-one combat

Combat begins on contact with an enemy and is fully 3D action, generally close to one-on-one, combining sword attacks with shield guards and left/right evasive steps. Health is managed through HP and LP: losing all HP knocks you down, and you spend a point of LP to recover and restart the exchange. Losing all HP with no LP remaining incapacitates you, making cautious play important.

The Granstream Saga — what should I check first in 3D sword-combat basics?

Shield guarding is a dependable defense against many attacks, and the basic flow is to block the opponent's attack before countering. Repeated left/right step inputs let you move quickly, so use them to circle from an enemy's front toward its side and reduce incoming hits. Defending first, watching the start of an attack, and then moving is more reliable than slashing blindly. Alternate guarding and evasion, then strike when the opponent's large movements leave an opening.

2. Unable to reach the next continent

Cause: Overlooking events or items

Solution: Review conversations and maps and investigate unexplored places

3. Not dealing enough damage

Cause: Weapons have not been updated

Solution: Equip the latest available weapons and armor before trying again

Defend with guards and steps

Shield guarding is a dependable defense against many attacks, and the basic flow is to block the opponent's attack before countering. Repeated left/right step inputs let you move quickly, so use them to circle from an enemy's front toward its side and reduce incoming hits. Defending first, watching the start of an attack, and then moving is more reliable than slashing blindly. Alternate guarding and evasion, then strike when the opponent's large movements leave an opening.

  • ▸ Block with the shield guard before counterattacking
  • ▸ Repeated left/right step inputs allow quick movement
  • ▸ Avoid an enemy's front and circle to its side to land attacks more easily
  • ▸ Defend first and watch the beginning of the enemy's action before moving
Keep track of HP and LP

Reaching 0 HP does not immediately incapacitate you: you can spend LP to recover. LP is precious, however, and repeatedly losing it quickly makes the situation difficult. When HP falls, stop forcing attacks, create time through guarding or evasion, and use a recovery method. Especially against powerful enemies, switch between offense and defense early to conserve LP.

  • ▸ At 0 HP, you can spend LP to recover
  • ▸ Reaching 0 HP with no LP left incapacitates you
  • ▸ Switch to defense rather than forcing attacks when HP falls
  • ▸ Prioritize conserving LP against stronger enemies
Handling multiple enemies

When several enemies are present, targeting and defeating them individually is safer. Being surrounded exposes you to attacks from multiple directions, so position yourself to line enemies up and make them easier to handle. Switch targets and remove enemies with troublesome movements first to make recovery easier. Rather than taking everyone on at once, try to create one-on-one situations.

  • ▸ Target and defeat multiple enemies individually
  • ▸ Position yourself to line enemies up and avoid being surrounded
  • ▸ Switch targets and remove troublesome enemies first
  • ▸ Move to create one-on-one situations
