Nova Drift Salvo and Spectre Starter Build: Stockpile, Fire, Reposition
Stop firing long enough to stockpile Salvo missiles, use that interval to rebuild Spectre’s cloak, then fire with an escape route already chosen. The useful habit is a repeatable attack cycle; waiting for the largest possible stockpile can leave you trapped.

Choose the core equipment before extending the build
Salvo stores homing missiles while you are not firing, then releases them when you attack. Spectre gradually cloaks, and the cloak built up determines the weapon-damage benefit when you fire. The two work together because the same pause prepares both effects. Check that both are unlocked before planning a run around them.
Shockwave is an optional shield candidate because its wave pushes nearby enemies and projectiles. The attack cycle works without it, and it will not protect you from every attack. If another shield is familiar, keep it while learning the weapon and body together.
For a first practice setup, avoid making a Super Mod the immediate objective. Add one unfamiliar interaction at a time. That leaves you able to tell whether a change affected stockpiling, the firing window or the time needed to become concealed again.
Run a three-part attack cycle
Preparation is useful only while you still have room to leave. Check the space ahead of the ship as well as the missile counter. Cloak does not erase projectiles already travelling toward you, and enemies can still fire at your estimated position.
If danger arrives before your intended shot, evade. Do not preserve cloak by refusing to move. A smaller attack that leaves you able to prepare another is more useful for this exercise than a larger one followed by an avoidable collision.
- Prepare: stop firing, check approaching enemies and projectiles, and let the missile stockpile and cloak build while you have room. Avoid unnecessary acceleration during a safe pause.
- Fire: choose where to move after the attack before triggering Salvo. Release the missiles while keeping that route visible.
- Reposition: move away if threats close in. Once the release has ended and the position is safe, stop firing and return to preparation.
Choose a mod by the problem it addresses
If rebuilding the stockpile feels slow, consider weapon rate-of-fire effects: for Salvo they affect the stockpiling interval. Projectile-count effects address a different part of the process by affecting missiles gained per stockpiling event. Do not treat the two descriptions as interchangeable.
If you take damage before your shield returns, consider defensive upgrades such as Shield Cooldown to help it recover sooner. Also check where you waited: more firepower will not fix an unsafe preparation spot.
Read effects that remove shields, cause self-damage, deploy constructs or change firing behaviour before selecting them. They can alter the simple cycle you are learning. After an upgrade, observe one preparation interval before deciding that the entire build needs replacing.
Diagnose stockpiling and cloak separately
Few missiles accumulate: check whether you are still holding fire. Make an intentional non-firing interval before blaming the weapon choice. If missiles are still being released, Salvo is still treated as firing even after you stop pressing the input.
Cloak does not recover: check whether Salvo is still releasing missiles, you are firing repeatedly or you are moving fast. Shooting, high-speed movement and construct deployment break Spectre’s cloak, including automatic deployment of a Drone, Ally or Turret.
You are hit while concealed: watch the existing projectile paths and enemy movement. Concealment is an attack opportunity, not permission to ignore the screen. If several new systems obscure the cause, reduce them for the next practice attempt.
Judge the next attempt by a repeatable cycle
Before changing the loadout, name the stage that failed: preparation, release or escape. On the next attempt, change one relevant choice and check whether that stage becomes easier to manage. There is no required stockpile number or fixed upgrade order in this starter plan.
Continue from the result you observed
Keep a short note of whether the difficulty was stockpiling, cloak recovery or taking damage after firing. That is a useful starting point for another ordinary run without assuming a high-score endgame setup.
Questions and answers
Must I stay still until fully cloaked?
No. Use a safe interval to prepare, but move when a threat requires it. Avoiding a hit takes priority over preserving cloak.
Why does cloak not recover as soon as I release fire?
Check whether Salvo is still releasing its stockpile. Release counts as firing. Repeated shots, fast movement or construct deployment can also keep the simple preparation cycle from returning.
Is Shockwave or a specific score required?
Shockwave is optional. The goal is to learn stockpiling, firing and repositioning; this guide makes no score, wave or completion promise.
