Monster Sanctuary Beginner Team Guide: Three Roles and Combo Order

For an ordinary early PvE fight, give your three active monsters a support action, a flexible middle action and a final attack. Plan for survival first, then use support to prepare the monster that benefits most from acting later. Change these roles to suit the enemy and the turn.

Steam full release, ordinary early-game PvE. Checked October 17, 2026; official materials include 2.2.2.1. No runtime test. Console parity, PvP, special modes and exact passive combo increments are outside scope.

7 sections. Spoiler details are not included in search.

Support actions can prepare a later attack

Attacks are not the only active skills that can increase combo. Healing, shielding and buffing can also contribute, allowing a useful support action to prepare later damage. After each skill, check how it changed the combo counter.

Combo built by earlier actions strengthens later attacks and resets when the turn ends. If you plan to attack this turn, consider using necessary support first. Support used after the main attack cannot strengthen that attack retroactively.

This does not mean every passive proc follows one universal counting rule. Old guides may describe interactions changed by later updates. The current skill text and visible counter are better checks than importing an old per-buff or per-passive calculation into a new team.

Assign jobs across three active monsters

First action: provide the healing, shielding or buffs needed now. Middle action: add missing support or build combo for the planned attack. Final action: use that preparation for the main attack. These roles describe action order, not positions on the screen.

Open the skills of the monsters you actually own and identify who can cover each job. A monster can perform more than one role, but its action this turn still has to serve the current plan. Three monsters that all want the final attack can leave nobody handling the damage you are taking.

Use this as a roster check rather than a demand for three named species. If your available support is doing its job, there is no need to replace it simply because another guide uses a different creature. When an enemy changes the matchup, a different teammate may become the best choice for the final action.

Plan the turn from survival and the final attack

Choose the intended final action before spending the other actions. This makes the support plan concrete: you can ask what that attacker needs, rather than picking unrelated skills and hoping the combo number solves the fight.

  1. Inspect your team’s condition and decide which healing or protection is needed this turn.
  2. Inspect the enemy’s weaknesses and resistances, then select a suitable final attacker and skill.
  3. Use the remaining actions for the support and combo that help that attack, while covering the survival need you identified first.

Diagnose the missing job before chasing a larger counter

Combo rises but damage stays poor: inspect the final action. Is it an appropriate attacking skill, and does it suit the target’s weaknesses or resistances? A large counter cannot choose a target or an attack for you. First change that final decision before replacing every team member.

The team falls despite a strong attack: check whether you skipped healing, shielding or another necessary support action. Prioritize recovery when it is urgent. Having a support monster in the team does not help if it never uses the required skill.

Skills feel individually useful but the turn feels disjointed: check the order. Try the necessary support before the chosen damage action in a normal fight. Keep the roster and equipment stable for that comparison so you can see whether order was the missing piece.

Adapt the pattern to the current turn

A healthy team might use its first action for a buff; a damaged team might need healing instead. These are planning examples, not a universal rotation. Give support a clear purpose, and retain the option to recover if the team’s condition worsens.

This starter framework does not promise a star rating, a champion clear or a PvP result. Advanced passive interactions and specialist teams need their own current-version checks. Here, the useful result is being able to explain each of the three actions.

Before the next fight

  1. Confirm that the team can supply the support needed for the current fight.
  2. Choose the final attacker according to the matchup, not a permanent turn-order rule.
  3. Watch the combo counter and identify one action or order change to compare next time.

Use the same questions when the roster grows

When you gain another monster or unlock another skill, ask which missing job it could cover. Adding a new choice is useful when it solves a specific problem; it does not require abandoning every role you already understand.

Questions and answers

Do I need a specific three-monster starter team?

No named roster is required here. Check support, the middle action and final damage using monsters you own. One monster can cover different jobs on different turns.

Should the monster on the right always act last?

The roles refer to action order, not screen position. Choose the final action by the current matchup and what the team needs.

Does every passive effect add the same amount of combo?

Do not assume that. This guide covers the basic use of active support actions, not exact passive increments. Later patches changed some interactions, so check current skill text and the visible counter.
