CARRION Beginner's Guide — Check Your Abilities When Lost
Adds control checks cross-referenced against public guides to the existing official overview. Additional material checked October 15, 2026; not tested in-game.
Find Your Route Through Body Size, Abilities, and Water
Covers the PC (Steam) base game. Public guides and wiki cross-checked October 15, 2026. Assumes the required abilities are acquired; underwater traversal and parasitism apply only afterward. No in-game retesting, solutions for every containment unit, or DLC/mobile control checks. Names checked against original-language labels.

Check Body Size and Available Abilities

Small, Medium, and Large Forms Have Different Combinations
Even after unlocking an evolution, current biomass determines your size. An acquired ability cannot necessarily be used in another form.
| Current Size | Attack/Mechanism Ability | Energy-Using Defensive Ability |
|---|---|---|
| Small | Arachnoptysis: use webs on levers and similar mechanisms | Photokinesis: become invisible to pass lasers |
| Medium | Xiphorrhea: charge into wooden obstacles or push plugs | Acanthosis: grow spikes on your body |
| Large | Harpagorrhea: retract tentacles to pull plugs | Keratosis: hardened shell for explosions and similar hazards |
- This table helps choose acquired abilities. Simply enlarging your body does not grant an ability you have not obtained.
When You Can No Longer Use an Earlier Ability

Deposit Biomass in a Designated Pool, Then Return
- Identify the ability needed at the dead end and check its size combination in the table.
- Return to a designated biomass pool. Shrink to the required form and leave deposited biomass there.
- Return to the lever or obstacle and activate it. While you need small-form webs, avoid changing size through healing along the way.
- After opening the route, return to the pool and reclaim the biomass. Adjust your form for the next mechanism.
- Do not treat every body of water as a deposit point. Confirm that depositing is possible at the designated pool.
When You Cannot Reach a Mechanism Through a Grate
Open the actions and check table
Hit the Lever with Small-Form Webs
- Confirm Arachnoptysis is acquired and return to small form at a designated pool.
- Fire webs at the lever beyond the grate and check for changes to doors or water level.
- Proceed through the opened side. Before repeatedly charging in a large form, review ability combinations.
- Lever positions and door directions vary by room. This does not guarantee coordinates or complete input sequences for specific rooms.
Before Crossing Lasers
Open the actions and check table
Prepare Small-Form Invisibility and Energy
- Confirm Photokinesis is acquired and return to small form.
- Refill energy at a power source, then approach the laser.
- Activate invisibility to pass. Since energy drains, do not travel far with it active; switch it off after crossing.
- Moving while invisible consumes energy. Distinguish humans/biomass for healing from energy used by abilities.
When Plugs or Obstacles Will Not Move
Open the actions and check table
Distinguish Medium-Form Pushing from Large-Form Pulling
- Check the obstacle's front/back and your current form.
- Use medium-form charge to push and large-form tentacles to pull. If your form is wrong, change at a designated pool and return.
- Confirm the route is open before moving into the next room.
| Desired Action | Acquired Ability and Form | What to Check |
|---|---|---|
| Push a Plug from Behind | Medium / Xiphorrhea | Which side of the plug you are on |
| Pull a Plug Out from the Front | Large / Harpagorrhea | Attach and retract the tentacle |
| Break a Wooden Obstacle by Charging | Medium / Xiphorrhea | Whether the obstacle is wooden |
- This does not mean every wall or blocked door can be destroyed. Metal doors and other mechanisms require the room's specific controls.
Before Crossing Explosive Mechanisms
Open the actions and check table
Prepare Large-Form Shell and Energy
- If Keratosis is acquired, prepare large form and refill energy.
- Activate the shell before touching the explosion, then recheck energy afterward.
- Before entering another mechanism, review refill points and body size.
- Extra biomass alone does not guarantee surviving explosions. Check energy afterward and avoid consecutive mechanisms without preparation.
When You Cannot Pass an Underwater Grate
Open the actions and check table
Check Hydrophilia and the Water Level
- Confirm Hydrophilia was acquired at Leviathan Reef Base. Shrinking your body cannot substitute for it.
- Check that the grate is underwater. Where levers alter water levels, ensure water reaches the intended grate before approaching.
- Move through the grate underwater. This does not mean you can freely pass grates on land.
- Treat this as an acquired traversal ability, distinct from size-specific offensive/defensive powers. This is not a guide to every lever direction or route in the area.
When Using Someone Beyond a Grate
Open the actions and check table
After Acquiring Parasitism, Control a Target to Reach the Switch
- Confirm Parasitism was acquired at Relith Science HQ. Check the in-game prompt for its controls, distinct from ordinary grabbing tentacles.
- Where a controllable target is beyond a grate, extend the parasitic tentacle to them. Some situations use fallen targets.
- Once controlling the target, operate levers/switches and confirm changes such as opened doors.
- End parasitism, return to controlling the creature, and follow the open route. Distinguish killing a target from actually activating the switch.
- Covers ordinary base-game Parasitism. Excludes later transformations, every target's weapon controls, and range values.
Conclusion (first thing to remember)
When lost, recall your most recently acquired ability. Growth and evolution grant new powers that change accessible routes. Many apparent dead ends either require a future ability or can be opened with your newest one.
Become the source of fear. Pursue rather than be pursued.
The official description explains that you grow and evolve, gaining more deadly abilities. Your options expand as you progress.
New abilities open inaccessible places. Exploration-driven structure.
Grip walls and ceilings and crawl at speed. Becomes comfortable with practice.
Your next destination may be unclear. Thinking in terms of abilities helps organize your search.
- Learn movement first — Tentacle crawling is distinctive. Learn the controls early.
- Recheck your surroundings after gaining an ability — Your new power often opens something nearby.
- Remember dead ends — Knowing inaccessible places helps you return after gaining abilities.
- Change how you handle humans — Effective tactics depend on their equipment. Do not cling to one approach.
- Enjoy exploring — Hidden routes exist. Looking around can ultimately be faster than rushing.
Wandering Without Considering Abilities
Abilities open paths. Checking your powers is the quickest solution.
Charging Head-On
Armed humans require appropriate tactics. Rushing without a plan gets you pushed back.
Proceeding Before Learning Movement
Tentacle movement is fundamental. Unfamiliarity causes more accidents.
Forgetting Dead Ends
Without remembering blocked routes, you will not know where to return after gaining abilities.
Q. Is there a map feature?
The intricate facility makes it easy to get lost. Remembering inaccessible places yourself makes progression easier.
Q. Is it difficult?
The action is relatively gentle. Routes are more likely to stall you than combat; connect abilities to paths to progress.
Q. Is there graphic violence?
Yes. You attack humans as a monster, including blood and feeding scenes.
Q. How long will it take to finish?
It is a compact game. Its length suits taking time to enjoy exploration.
